Who I work with
Businesses with nobody senior running marketing
Decisions get made by whoever is free, or by whichever agency called most recently. Nobody is holding the whole thing together.
Founders doing it themselves and running out of hours
You have got it this far on instinct and effort. It works, but it is not repeatable, and it is eating the week.
Teams with a marketer who needs someone above them
You have hired well at the doing end. What is missing is someone to set the direction and tell them when to stop.
How I help
A marketing director, part time
I run marketing for businesses that need senior judgement but not a senior salary. Strategy, budget, agencies, and the people you already have. Usually a couple of days a week.
A plan you will actually follow
Where the growth is realistically going to come from, what to do about it, and in what order. Written so the person doing the work knows what to do on Monday.
Whatever the plan turns out to need
Brand and messaging, your website, content, email, social, search, paid, events. I am not attached to any one channel, which means I have no reason to sell you one you do not need.
What I think
Marketing should be explainable
If you cannot explain to a colleague why you are spending the money, that is not a communication problem. It is a strategy problem.
Learn the business first
I would rather spend two weeks understanding how you actually make money than write a campaign from a briefing document.
Small numbers can be good numbers
Traffic and followers are easy to grow and easy to fake. A handful of the right enquiries beats a chart that only looks good in a screenshot.
Say when it is not working
If a channel is not earning its budget I will tell you to stop, even when that shrinks the work I am being paid for.
How this starts
A conversation, free
Half an hour. You tell me what you sell, who buys it, and what has not worked so far. No pitch. If I am the wrong person for it I will say so and point you somewhere better.
An honest read
I look at what you are doing now, what it costs and what it brings back, then tell you where the actual gap is. Sometimes it is not marketing.
The work
A monthly retainer if you want the whole function led over time, or a single session on one specific problem. You keep control of the budget and can stop whenever it stops earning.

The person behind it
Hi, I’m Divya.
I’ve spent over a decade in marketing. First in house, then on my own, which means I’ve run the campaigns, managed the agencies, sat through the budget meetings, and watched a lot of genuinely good ideas die for extremely boring reasons. Wrong audience. No follow-through. A brilliant strategy that nobody could actually action on a Tuesday morning.
I’m also co-founder of Storyboard Digital in Sheffield, so I’ve sat on both sides of the table: the agency doing the pitching, and the business owner squinting at the slide deck wondering whether any of this is going to work.
That second seat is the useful one. I can tell you which bits of a proposal are real and which bits are decoration, what a reasonable timeline looks like, and where your money is quietly leaking. Mostly I’m here to make marketing feel less like a mystery and more like something you can make decisions about.
No jargon. No twelve-month plans that fall apart in week three. Just the version that works for a business your size.
Writing
The question I ask before approving any marketing spend
Not what will it cost, or what will we get. Something much duller, and much harder to answer.
Doing a bit of everything is the same as doing nothing
Most small businesses are not short of marketing ideas. They are short of a reason to pick one.
The question SMEs get wrong about fractional marketing
It is not whether you can afford a marketing director. It is what happens in month four.
Most marketing problems start as a clarity problem.
Half an hour, no pitch, and an honest answer about what you should do next. Even if the answer is that you do not need me.
